I mainly create remade bags using obi (traditional Japanese sashes).
There is a saying in Japan, “Three obi for one kimono,” meaning that an obi plays a key role in changing the overall impression of an outfit. Yet, many beautiful obi end up stored away in drawers, no longer in use. That is what inspired me to start making remade obi bags. Obi fabric is durable and allows the beauty of its rich embroidery and intricate weaving to truly shine. It is also surprisingly lightweight and easy to use. These bags pair well with everyday clothing, are perfect for lunches with friends, and depending on the size, can even be used for work. I find great joy in discovering obi with patterns that reflect Japan’s seasons and culture, and I feel a sense of excitement each time I transform them into something new. I sincerely hope to share this feeling and appreciation with others.
