Hello, my name is Yoiko, a kimono upcycling fashion designer. To be honest, I used to dislike kimono when I was a child.
That experience inspired me to create a fashion brand called “KIMONO⁺on”, for people like me—those who are fascinated by the beauty of kimono but find it difficult to actually wear one. My goal is to make kimono fashion more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
In Japan today, opportunities to wear kimono have drastically decreased, and the tradition itself faces the risk of disappearing. I feel it is my mission to give kimono a new life and reintroduce it to the world as a form of modern fashion. This passion led me to launch Soratobu JAPAN Craft (“Flying Japan Craft”). Through this project, I hope to rediscover, reinterpret, and share the richness of Japanese culture with the next generation and with people around the world.
The kimono style I especially want to share globally is the Edo-period approach to fashion—when people creatively expressed themselves through kimono, even though colors and materials were restricted by social status.
In today’s world, many women’s wardrobes tend to be dominated by monochrome fashion, which can feel limiting in its own way. By adding kimono-inspired pieces, I hope to help women everywhere rediscover their femininity, express their individuality, and bring a sense of richness and joy into their everyday lives.

じつは私は幼い頃から着物が嫌いでした。そこで、私のように着物の魅力に惹かれつつも、着物を着ることにハードルを感じる人でも気軽に着物を楽しめるファッションブランドを立ち上げたいと「KIMONO⁺on」を創りました。私は日本では着る機会が激減し、消滅危機である“着物”に新しい命を吹き込み、新たなファッションとして世界に提案することが私の使命だと感じています。それが空飛ぶJAPANクラフトを立ち上げるきっかけとなりました。日本文化を掘り起こし、再編集して次の世代や世界と共有したいと思っています。 私が特に世界に共有したい着物スタイルは、社会的地位によって着物の色や素材に制限されつつも、新たなファッション文化を確立した江戸時代の着物の楽しみ方です。 現代の私たち女性のクローゼットはというと、モノクロファッションを選びがちで、ある意味制限されたファッションの中で生きています。私はそんな女性たちでも、着物アイテムをプラスすることで女性らしさや個性を表現する潤いのあるライフスタイルを世界の１人でも多くの方に体験して欲しいと願っています。
