OMOIOBI

OMOIOBI Japanese Obi Art, Woven with Memories Art to live with. Memories to keep close. Inside a drawer lay my mother’s kimono—and the memories they held. When my mother passed away, I inherited her kimono and obi sashes. I treasured their beautiful colours and patterns, yet rarely had an occasion to wear them. For years, they remained carefully tucked away. Then I began to wonder: what if I could make their beauty part of my everyday life? I transformed one of her obi into a wall hanging and placed it in my living room. It did more than brighten the space. Whenever it caught my eye, I felt a little closer to my mother. The memories I had kept safely tucked away became part of my daily life again. That is how OMOIOBI began—with a treasured piece of cloth and the wish to keep its beauty and memories close. Today, I transform Japanese obi and kimono into wall hangings and home décor, offering a way to enjoy these traditional textiles in contemporary homes. Woven textures that catch the light. Seasonal flowers and symbolic motifs. Colours and patterns whose beauty endures through time. I create each piece with care, honouring the character of the original textile while giving it a new place in everyday life. On a living room wall, in a welcoming entryway, or beside a favourite place to pause, a single piece can bring warmth, character and a sense of connection to a space. Through OMOIOBI, I hope to share this experience beyond Japan—inviting people around the world to discover Japanese culture, tradition and artistry through something they love having in their home. You may be drawn to a piece for its colours, its intricate patterns, or the way it makes you feel. It may remind you of someone dear, or simply bring a little beauty to your day. As you live with it, new memories become part of its story. What began with my mother’s obi has become a wish to bring that quiet joy into other homes. From Japan to wherever you call home, I hope you find a piece that speaks to your heart. Sachi Creator of OMOIOBI
